This project was launched on Instagram and Facebook on November 1, 2023. I posted the below colorful graphic with the text “Quick Buck – Who wants to make a quick buck? – Message me for details. Opportunities limited to 50. But I guarantee you can make a quick buck! No joke. Message me your mailing address and I’ll send you all the information.” While it seemed like a total scam gimmick, it was actually an art project. The 50 people who were courageous enough to send me their address got the letterpress print in the mail with instructions also seen below.
The instructions for the participant:
With a pencil, pen, crayon, or any writing utensil you wish to use, connect the dots in numerical order on the enclosed print. Once complete, sign your name on the bottom left of the print. Package up the print in the clear sleeve. Fill out enclosed form and place behind the print in clear sleeve. Place print and form and clear sleeve in cardboard mailer. Seal mailer. Place cardboard mailer in yellow envelope.
The follow up note the participant received after receiving the completed art work:
Congratulations!
You have successfully made a Quick Buck!
This is an art work by David Greg Harth. In collaboration with you! There were 50 opportunities to make a Quick Buck. The first 50 people who contacted me about the opportunity got this original art work for free. There were 60 total letterpress prints created. 10 remain. In Harth’s possession are: 2 artists proofs, 2 printers proofs, and 1 exhibition proof. The remaining 5 are available for sale on Harth’s website for $500.00 each. Consider yourself lucky - you made a Quick Buck that has a lot of worth!
Below are some of the Quick Bucks made as part of this project. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the ones in which the participant chose to truly follow the instructions in their own way.
